Sunderland Octoberfest 2011 - Beer of the Festival presentation.
On Saturday 28th January, fourteen branch members who had volunteered to staff the 2011 Sunderland Octoberfest, visited the Arkwright Arms near Chesterfield to make the presentations for Beer of the Festival. There was a three way tie for the award, so certificates were presented to Raw Brewing Company from Staveley, Derbyshire for their Pacific Ghost IPA, to Offbeat Brewery from Crewe for their Out of Step IPA and to Hornbeam Brewery for their German Altbier.

Thanks to John & Kathy Chadwick, of the Arkwright Arms (current Chesterfield branch Pub of the Year) for hosting the event.
A New Brewery opens in Branch Area - Temptation Brewing Company has been opened by branch members Kay Masson & Tony Killeen. They have already had two new brews available in a few select local pubs. The branch wishes Kay & Tony the very best of luck in the new venture.
Online member nominations for Champion Beer of Britain:
All CAMRA members can now take part in the process to choose the Champion Beer of Britain.
A new national website has been launched - www.cbobvoting.org.uk - which for the first time will allow all members to fully participate in the nomination process. Previously beers judged in the national finals go through a very rigorous process to be selected, including a series of regional competitions in nine areas, to find the best regional beer in each of eleven beer style categories.
In each region, the beers selected for the local competitions are determined by nominations including those submitted by branches - with branches polling their own members.
The new website will now allow all members to nominate five beers in each of the eleven categories to be put forward for the CBOB competition. Any CAMRA member can login into the new web site using the same login details they use to access the members' area of the CAMRA national website. Having logged in you'll be able to access information about the nomination schedule - with the nomination period varying region to region - but the nominations period in many regions starts in December.
On Saturday 19th November 2011 Sunderland & South Tyneside CAMRA handed over a cheque for £172 to MacMillan Cancer Support. The money was donated by patrons of the 2011 Sunderland Octoberfest who wanted the returns from unused beer tokens & returned glass deposits to go to charity. MacMillan was our selected charity for this years festival. In the pictures: Lynn Dobson & Fiona Monteith-Preston of SST_CAMRA plus Sara Goldie of MacMillan. Thanks from SST_CAMRA & MacMillan for all donations.
