Sunderland & South Tyneside CAMRA supports approx. 100 pubs in the branch area serving cask ales & encourages the remaining pubs in the area to try cask ales.
The number of pubs serving cask ale at any given time is fluid as properties change landlords & ownership etc. In the current economic conditions some local pubs face the most difficult times seen for many years. CAMRA asks anyone using this site to keep us informed of changes to the information held on these pages. (Please contact our 'Pubs Officer' with any information.)
"Pub of the Year":
Each year members of the branch vote the "Pub of the Year" from a ballot sheet of pubs in the current edition of the CAMRA publication "The Good Beer Guide".
"Good Beer Guide (2012)":
Each year the branch is allocated, (by its publishers,) a number of entry slots in the national CAMRA publication the "Good Beer Guide". Currently Sunderland & South Tyneside CAMRA have 22 entries.
These entries are filled by the previous winner of the "PotY" competition & the 21 highest scoring pubs on the CAMRA National Beer Scoring System (NBSS). After each pub visit all CAMRA members are encouraged to score the quality of the cask ales served & enter those scores onto the NBSS. As an ordinary CAMRA member this is an important task as your beer quality scores on NBSS directly determine which local pubs are given GBG places.

"LocAle Pubs":
"LocAle" is a popular national CAMRA campaign to match Local Pubs with Local Brewers. Details of the campaign can be found here.
